Billowing Wind - $75

This small piece was a challenge to emulate the art of Jonathen Green, SC artist. It depicts a Gullah woman hanging a sheet (3-D) in the billowing wind. It was a fun experiment.

Rumspringa Memories - A Central Struggle $1325

While firmly ensconced in her Amish community, the individual looks back at the bright and colorful days of her Rumspringa and the struggle she endured to decide where she truly belonged "at home".

Hearts Across The Americas $100

This challenge quilt for the Charlotte (NC) Quilt Guild celebrates North American hearts reaching out to the South Americans. It also depicts the various ways in which people approach one another, from handshake (distant) to hugging each other's heart (closeness). Techniques include stamping, painting, copying a photo of NASA for the center, and machine quilting.

Mr. Bird Has Lost His
Way Home - $75

Starting with a piece of Hmong embroidery, this small piece became a place to play with a stamp, to thread stitch and paint a funny-looking bird who has lost his way. Mama Bird, not seen, saved his day by leaving a path for him to follow home.

It Takes A Village - $100

I decided to use birds (Flying Geese) shapes to indicate how many it takes to foster one tiny jewel of a baby bird. Techniques and supplies include fused applique, ravelings, feathers and cocoons.

Squidlings - $1000

Begin with a leftover applique shape, add wonky squares and a lot of machine quilting with a little batting-based trapunto and you have "Squidlings". A sea of underwater animals inhabit the background

Primary Experiments - $1250

This is the third quilt made with my "burst" technique. The lighter colored fabric is my hand-dyed; the darker colored fabric was commercially dyed.

King Tut and The Asp - $1300

Appliques I designed alternate and move across this quilt. Plain blocks and wedge blocks also alternate. The appliques are raw-edged and further embellished with Lumiere paint. Blue and yellow fabrics provide good contrast.

Joyful Noise - Women In Praise $750

Batiks make a strong background for the women in praise. The latter are fused in place then machine appliqued. This piece is representative of a number of strong women of faith that I know and love.

Summer Fall Winter Spring - Mostly Spring $1125

Each season is represented in this half-hex braid wall hanging, but mostly the pastels of spring. Each different fabric was treated to a different quilting motif which gives the quilt lots of texture (see Detail).

In My Quilt Imagination $250

This wall hanging includes gel-dyed fabric, ravelings (thread trash), snips and bits, thread sketching, machine quilting and writing.

Forsaken Island - $750

Deep sea machine quilting anchors this wall hanging, while crushed and stitched fabric forms the island. The palm trees, to which the For Sale sign is hung, are made of vinyl, silk rods and cocoons. Specialty yarns are couched to represent wave elements at the sea's surface.
